Aspen turns two!

For Aspen's second birthday we invited some friends over to our house.

There were balloons, lots of balloons. (Although not a single balloon survived to the party's end.)

There were sheets of tulle to run through (and leis to wear)...who knew tulle could be so much fun!

There was a treasure hunt (using shovels) for priceless gems, frogs, insects, super balls, and cars.

There was quesadilla dinner with peeps. (Also, you can't really see it in the photo, but almost every kid is eating with a recently excavated car close at hand.)

There was pound cake with fruit and whipcream!

After cake, the treasure hunt site turned into a mud pit (that's what happens when you dump the treasure rinsing tub into the treasure concealing dirt.) 

But that was pretty fun too!

After the mud pit we took a break to open presents (thank you everyone!).  One of our presents was a parachute...what a perfect occasion to use it!

It was a fun party!

Taking turns

Like many toddlers Aspen is a complete sponge, and things you do one day can be unexpectedly incorporated into games the next day (especially since she is getting old enough to do some playing by herself.)

Well, last night we were at a party and at the end of the party kids were taking turns swinging in the hammock, with us adults counting to ten to demarcate each child's turn.

This is small snippet of how that translated in today's block time!

She probably spent at least 5 minutes making the blocks take turns and counted in between each one (sometimes 1-10, often 1-13?, or, as in this clip, some random subset).

For those that need a translator this is the dialogue

"your turn, green turn!" (puts the green block on the pillar)

"3, 4, 5, 6, 7!"

"yellow turn, your turn" (puts the yellow block on the pillar)

(Happy mamma sigh) Kids are great!
